Sony ICF-SW7600GR portable world receiver

Sony has been famous for its series of shortwave receivers since decades. They have offered good quality for low prices. Thus they have been very popular among shortwave enthusiasts all over the world.

I myself have used a Sony ICF-SW7600GR for several years as my main shortwave receiver and I have been completely happy with the performance it has shown with its built-in whip antenna and a short wire antenna that is only a few meters long. In fact, I have very pleasant memories of sitting under a palm tree in the Dominican Republic while listening to icehockey match broadcasted from Scandinavia a few years ago. I had only thrown the short wire antenna over a palm tree and sat on the beach while sipping a rum and listening to the icehockey match. What a combination1

If you are interested in listening to more exotic stations with weak signals, you might need an external antenna and/or a better receiver. But for most shortwave listeners it is enough to have a decent portable receiver, just like this Sony that is affordable for most people in the industrialized world.
